Series: Medical Authority

docs1Patients now have unprecedented access to a deluge of information and increasingly expect healthcare providers to confirm their self-diagnoses. This leaves doctors in a double-bind, feeling like their own professional authority is undermined while at the same time having to bear more responsibility than ever for the medical advice they give. Furthermore, unpleasant interactions with doctors who are less than sympathetic or bogged down with paperwork can decrease the likelihood a patient will follow their advice.

In this series, Vital explores the many issues related to the authority we do and don’t give medical professionals.
